Sophomore All Stars Meet At Pocono; Older Pacers Push At Meadowlands; Hoosier Features Insured

If you know the program then go to it—do your own handicapping and then consider our H2W selections. HOOSIER HITS Thursday, May 9’s Hoosier feature is the $9,000 The Go On BB conditioned late-closer. Eleven filly-and-mare pacers line up. They are all lightly raced in 2019. Jeff Cullipher’s Kinda Like Kori will be the public’s focus, and two from Lewayne Miller follow for favor. As well, Incredible Show will demand attention. Looking beyond the obvious, we go with Ross Leonard’s This Peach Rocks. With only three starts she has no wins but was on the board twice and cannot be dismissed in this group. On Friday, May 10, one of Hoosier’s features is the series final of The Rogue One for $20,000. Eight conditioned pacers made it this far and Brinks Job leads the way nearly undisputed. We shall, though, dispute with an outsider in post and price—Special Luke. Aaron Stutzman’s pacer has been collecting checks in five of seven starts, two of them wins, and his post is nowhere near dangerous on this wide and smooth stretch. ALL-STAR SETS Pocono presents three divisions of the Pennsylvania All Stars league on Saturday, May 11, featuring soph-pacing colts. Each field goes for $30,000. In division one we find the “now” horse, Blood Money, getting the most attention, though he is not without thick competition. One threat is Ray Schnittker’s Captain Malicious. He has not yet reached his speed capability and Ray appears to have him primed for a top spot in the division. Off the radar is Brian Brown’s Caviart Stetson. His post will turn away bettors but that just gives him a price that lights up our eyes. He is two wins for three starts and may be able to prove he is one to reckon with in this division with a good-to-great showing here. In the second round, Lyons Night Hawk is the only top earner at two among the first 50. He may not escape the class-oriented bettors. Schnittker has another promising soph in this with Braquinho, along with a trio from Ron Burke. One of Burke’s three is Costello. The aptly named son of Sweet Lou has not hit the board in five starts, though he has some excuses—consistent bad posts that, although they are poor excuses, may not fit his racing style. Here he gets post 2, giving him a chance to show if he has the kind of speed his sire has and is generating with his ghet. Given this is a first chance for him to get into a race, his price will be high and among these his chances will be better than all season so far. The last All-Star field is a even match across the posts. Again, Schnittker sends a prospect, Cloudbreak, that will find an audience. There are many arguments for the eight involved, with the most highly regarded from the frosh crop being Air Force Hanover. We are going with last week’s failure, Spectrum, from the Burke barn, for price and purpose. GOLDEN PACING The second leg of the Golden Receiver Series for older pacers is a feature at the Meadowlands on May 11 with a field of nine on board. Bringing back Highalator from two excellent wins shouts look out to the others but begs to be bet against. One to support along those lines is Rough Odds. Ten spots on the board (four wins) in 15 starts is as good as any here. Though the crowd will weigh speed and trainer and driver elements below the others, we gladly toss those elements away for the price this solid horse will pay to win. REYNOLDS RALLIES Grand Circuit events add to the May 11 Yonkers program, featuring soph-filly-and-colt pacers in Reynolds Memorials divisions. The first is worth $21,550 and has six aboard. The Millers may clearly own this short field with As Time Goes By. Though the crowd will lean into the two with a pair of wins each, Julie Miller’s filly is in a perfect spot. Seven more fillies race in the second Reynolds for $22,050. Queen Of The Pride came east for this affair and will be highly respected. However, Abigail Dawn has a shot at pacing away with this for her fourth-straight win of a hot beginning this season for Chris Ryder. The $24,250 colts division, one of two, is a one-horse race for us (though a fair price is not certain with only six in the field). World On Edge has been gangbusters at the Meadowlands and should make mince meat of these. Lastly, a $24,250 price is offered to six more colts in a Reynolds mile. It’s a wide-open mile for us, despite American Admiral’s decisive stats this season. We expect a sharp effort from No Mas Amor’s second race at three for Linda Toscano, who has kept this guy competitive and earning well against a tough frosh crop last season. H2W Legend Review our choices and follow the wagering at the prescribed track. These are possible contenders we have judged from reviewing races. The horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track after the date they will be racing. The race in which they are entered (R and race number) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name it means it is appearing on the list for the second (and last) time because it failed to win the first time it appeared. An “ae” signals the horse is entered on the also-eligible list. If a horse is listed twice, refer to the entries on the night of the race since a horse may enter in more than one race.
