SOUTHLAND Preview - February's Five Up And Coming Young Greyhounds to watch at Southland
It's that time again for MoneyMaker Mike to pick five up and coming young greyhounds to watch for the month of February at Southland. As some of you may know, these are greyhounds who have 10 or under races so far in their career and who show exceptional potential, promise and talent for their future. These are listed alphabetically and we will keep you updated on their progress. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
DARING SCHEME - A young greyhound showing lots of potential who has good early speed to go with a strong closing move, he is one that bears watching over the next few months. In three schooling races he won twice and ran 4th the other time. In his first official start he wins by 3 lengths and looks to make it two straight as he runs Saturday evening, January 17, in the 14th race from the 2 box. A mid-track runner who's got my attention, future looks bright for him.
DEMO - He is a good looking young greyhound who has looked impressive in his first four official starts which includes 3 wins already and a 4th place effort. He has made short work of the opposition in moving up to Grade B and with his solid mixture of early speed, a strong rush to the turn and a good closing move down the stretch, should be in the chase more often then not. Has a mid to wide running style and is not afraid to go paw to paw with the veterans as he moves up in class. He's gaining valuable experience each time he runs and has a bright future indeed.
JEANNE OF RUCKUS - She's had eight official starts and shows a record of 2 wins, 2 seconds and a third place finish in those. She has demonstrated tons of early speed which combined with her rail running style bodes well for her in the future. Now running in Grade C, she is very tough on the lead and even though she has been caught down the stretch a couple of times, she is still worth watching over the months to come as she will build up that stamina with each future start.
MEGA RICE - He's only had four official starts but in those, he's come away with two wins as well as a second and a fourth place effort. His strong rush to the turn along with his mid to mid rail running style will help and he does have a strong kick down the stretch all of which should have him in good position a majority of the time to challenge the frontrunners for a money finish.
OSHKOSH ICE MAN - If you like watching a greyhound come from behind then he's worth checking out for sure. He is a mid-track runner who won't be among the frontrunners out of the box but once he hits the first turn you will get to watch him turn the afterburners on with a blazing late kick that will put him in the chase to the wire. In his first four races he has finished all of them in the top four. He will be a solid trifecta threat each time out the next several months and will get his fair share of wins. He is running next in the 8th race, a Grade D contest over the 583 yard course on Saturday evening, January 17th.
