SOUTHLAND Preview - Friday, December 5

December 5th, 2014

Friday evening's card at Southland has 18 exciting and entertaining races on tap and I've picked several of the promising greyhounds for some solid wagering opportunities so let's see if we can put some cash in our pockets to start the weekend. As always, BetAmerica is your one stop destination for all of your sports wagering activities. Good luck to all and thanks for reading. Have a great weekend.

Race 1 - This is a Grade M race over the 660 yard course and I'm going with the (2) HALCON DE NOCHE as the key in this one.  I like him because he's a rail runner and he does show some early speed in his races over the shorter 583 course and I think he has a very good chance to go the front here. Last time out, which was his first race over this longer distance, he gave a good effort and came away with a nice 3rd place finish. Worth a shot as the odds might be good on him.

Race 6 - I'm liking the (6) PETER MILLS  in this Grade C contest over the 583 yard course as he has a mid-track running style and his post position gives him a decent shot to be among the early frontrunners. He came here from the Dubuque track where he ran 4 races and had 3 wins and a second in them. At Southland so far, he has a win and a fourth place effort in 5 starts. He shows some early foot along with a good move late so if he can avoid being blocked or bumped on his run to the turn, he should be in good position to challenge down the stretch.

Race 9 - Here we have a Grade A contest over the 583 yard course and the pick is the (4) NB'S LEBRONJAMES. This young greyhound is 7 out of 8 in the money here with 3 wins and 4 thirds. He came here from the Palm Beach track where he was 4 for 4 in the money including 2 wins. He has steadily moved up in grade and with the consistency he has shown so far in his young career, can't be overlooked, even in A grade competition. A rail runner with a strong closing move, I'm going with him to run a strong race here.

Race 10  - This is the MoneyMaker pick for the evening and it's the (7) MR SHILLELAGH running in a Grade AA contest over the 660 yard course. I like him for several reasons, he likes it mid to wide, he's posted well for his running style and not only does he have the early speed to get the lead, he has the ability to hold the lead down the stretch. He's moving up in class but I believe he's ready for the competition, he did win from the 7 box last time out over this same distance.

Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
