SOUTHLAND Preview - January 1

December 31st, 2014

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you and welcome to another Southland twilight card  as the 2015 racing action gets underway. There are 18 races on tap for the Thursday session and I've pick out some races that offer good wagering potential and they are listed below. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 2 - Here we have a former up and coming young greyhound that we selected in November as one to watch and he certainly hasn't disappointed us. This is a Grade A contest over the 583 yard course and the pick is the (3) FLYING FIRED UP. All this impressive young runner has done in 9 official starts is have 4 wins and 4 second place efforts while steadily moving up in grade. He's a rail runner who is usually among the frontrunners as they hit the first turn and with his strong late move, a definite contender to get his first Grade A win after finishing second 3 times in this class.

Race 9 - This is a Grade AA contest over the 583 yard course and the pick here is the (5) TC'S MIKE TROUT. He is another former up and coming  young greyhound that we chose back in November and he's been giving good efforts ever since. He is going for 3 wins in a row here and even though he's taken another step up in grade, I still like his chances.

Race 11 - Here we have a Grade B race over the 703 yard course and I'm going with the (7) CRAIGIE HARLEY D as the key. She is posted well for her mid to wide running style and last time out of the 7 box in this grade, she won. I'll give her a shot here to do the same.

Race 16 - This is the MoneyMaker play of the evening, a Grade B race over the 583 yard course and the pick is the (9) PJ RICCO SUAVE. He has 9 wins in 34 races, including two wins in his last six starts and I think he finds running room early due to his strong rush. He should be among the frontrunners at the turn and if so, I like his chances from there.

Good luck to everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
