SOUTHLAND Preview - Monday twilight, January 26

January 26th, 2015

Welcome to another Monday of entertaining greyhound racing at Southland Park. As most of you know, Mondays during January have featured all MoneyMaker Mike's longshot picks and while this is the last longshot Monday for a while, I do plan on having other weekdays/weeknights in the future that will have all longshot picks so keep checking back with us for those. For those of you that have just started following MoneyMaker Mike, I always have one MoneyMaker play of the program (a pick that is not on the morning line) but during this month, each of my four selections have all been longshot plays. Hopefully my picks today will help you put some nice $$$$$$ in your pockets. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 2 - We get started with a Grade D contest over the 583 yard course and our first longshot pick is the (2) OSHKOSH GOODMAN. This young pup is 7 out of 11 in the money early in his career and I like him to come from behind down the stretch to be in position for the win. He's not much of a breaker though he has shown some potential to hit the lid in a few races but his strong closing ability will put him in the chase most of the time. With his inside running style and big kick at the end, I'll go with him here.

Race 13 - Here is a Grade C contest over the 583 yard course and I'm going with the (5) CHASE LIBERTY to be the surprise of the matinee. I'm keying him because less than 2 months ago he was running Grade AA so he's got the class and he's got the early speed in which to hit the lid and be the leader right out of the box. There is other early speed in this race but I believe he gets out fast and finds running room on the inside in which to challenge for the win.

Race 19 - In this Grade AA contest over the 583 yard course, I like the (4) AMF LEADED GAS to close down the leaders in the stretch for a close win at the wire. To go along with his strong late kick, he has shown the ability to pop the lid on occasions so if that combination happens here, he'll be hard to beat. He has a wide running style but with such a big move late, he really can run from any box. I'll give him a shot here as he does have 2 wins in his last 6 races at this distance and in this grade.

Race 20 - Here we have the always exciting super marathon contest, a Grade C race over the 820 yard course. I like the (7) BARTS ONAJOURNEY as the key in this one because he's a double drop in class and last time out, at this distance, he finished 4th after being bumped on the first turn. He's a proven winner at the 703 yard distance and despite the longer distance in this race, I am willing to give him a shot at getting the win here as well.

I would also like to give a shout out to HUSKER MAGIC from Derby Lane who won the Inaugural 2015 BetAmerica Daytona 550 championship race held this past weekend. MoneyMaker Mike had her as his pick to win as well as having the quiniela and trifecta picked in that race. Congratulations to her and all her connections on the impressive win.

Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
