SOUTHLAND Preview - Sunday matinee, January 18
Afternoon all, welcome to another Sunday matinee of greyhound racing at Southland. There are 18 exciting races on the card for your viewing and wagering opportunities and TwinSpires is waiting to help you with any of your betting needs or questions that you might have. Enjoy the races and good luck to all of you, thanks for reading.
Race 3 - Here is a Grade M contest over the 583 yard course and I like the (2) PJ HIGHWAY to be the key. She has three top four finishes in her young career of just six starts and with her rail running style, the inside post position she has here should give her the edge. She almost cleared the turn last time out as the leader but unfortunately was bumped. This time, her early speed should have her as the leader right out of the box.
Race 8 - The MoneyMaker pick of the matinee is in this race, a Grade C contest over the 703 yard course. I like the (1) CALL TO ARMS as the one to beat here as he is a recent drop in grade and has now drawn the one box to go along with his inside running style. The last two times he has had the one box, he has a second and a third place effort to show for it. These two races came in Grade B and at the same distance as he is running today so with the drop in class along with his post position, I look for him to challenge for the win.
Race 10 - This is a very competitive field in this Grade AA contest over the 583 yard course and I'm going with the (8) KIOWA DANDELIONS to pull out a close win. He's a very consistent top grade runner with 24 top four finishes in 29 races which includes 8 wins. Breaking from the outside post with a ton of early speed, I look for him to challenge for the lead right out of the box. He needs a good break to get running room on the rail where he likes to race and I think with several other inside running greyhounds also in the field, he will use his early speed to get there.
Race 14 - In this Grade D contest over the 583 yard course we have the impressive young greyhound (9) SOVEREIGN ISLAND showcasing his talents. He schooled three times, winning each of them including a romp where he won by 14 lengths. He then had his first official start and came away with a win by 6 lengths in that one as well. He won't pay a big price but until he's beaten, I going to play him.
Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
