Counselor to Take Home the Gold?

January 7th, 2015

Wednesday's twilight card at Southland is highlighted by COUNSELOR running in the 17th race along with several other solid choices mixed among the races for this evening. I have selected several races that caught my  interest and I've listed those below. It should be a good payoff card with some greyhounds going off at decent odds and hopefully we can cash in on them. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 2 - In this Grade C contest over the 583 yard course, I'm going with the (3) KL'S NO REGRETS to be the key. With a good rush to the turn and a strong late kick, that combination is tough to beat and I see him breaking well and getting in good position around the turn in which to challenge the frontrunners. He's a solid young greyhound who has a mid to wide running style and if he's anywhere close to the leaders as they head down the backstretch, he's a definite threat to win.

Race 7 - Here is a Grade D contest over the 583 yard course and it's time for the (1) SLATEX GASTON to get a win. He is 21 out of 26 in top 4 finishes with only one win but ten second place efforts. Long overdue for a victory to say the least, he's got the early speed to be the leader out of the box and should remain the frontrunner with a good shot to hang on for the win. Since he does have plenty of 2nd and 3rd place finishes, I will also use him in tri's and superfectas in case he  fades down the stretch.

Race 17 - This Grade AA race over the 583 yard course features one of the best greyhounds in the country, the (1) COUNSELOR who is 24 out of 25 in top finishes in his young career so far which includes 14 wins already. The sky is the limit for this very talented runner and from the one box, he has had 5 races and won three of them while finishing third in the other two. I like COUNSELOR to get the win with the (6) DARK N DEMURE to be second or third in my trifecta plays. I will also play a 1-all-all-6 in the superfecta.

Race 11 - This is the MoneyMaker play of the evening and I like the (1) MEGA GILROY to pull the upset of program here. This is a Grade A contest over the 703 yard distance and while he has a mid-track running style, the inside post should be edge he needs here to clear early and avoid trouble while getting in good position to challenge for the win. Odds should be good on him and he's worth a shot here.

Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
