On Saturday night, Delta Downs will host the 14^th edition of Louisiana Premier Night.

The 12-race card features six stakes events and four starter stakes and is headlined by the $150,000 Louisiana Premier Night Championship run at a mile and a sixteenth.

The card that commences at 5:40 PM local time offers horseplayers a plethora of opportunities over the course of the evening with solid field sizes and several wide-open events.

Here are a few races I look forward to wagering on over the course of the night in Vinton, Louisiana:

Race 4

My first play of the card will be in the LA Bred Premier Night Bon Temps Starter Stakes. The $60,000 event is conducted at five-eighths of a mile and drew a full field with a number of runners that like to be on or near the early lead. This may not result in an extremely hot pace, but it should be contentious on the front end.

The probable race shape should set things up nicely for #3 Just Glossy. The daughter of Exclusive Quality comes into Saturday off a brief freshening from owner/trainer Brent Delahoussaye. She has hit the board in 7 of 10 tries at Delta Downs, including a victory two-back at this distance.

Regular rider Ashley Broussard should be able to save ground in a cozy spot a few lengths off the early pace much like she did in her last win. If she can avoid traffic trouble, I expect Just Glossy to be very tough to beat as the 4-1-lukewarm favorite.

Race 8

My second spot play will be in the $120,000 LA Bred Premier Night Sprint Stakes run at five furlongs.

#9 Sea Vow makes his first start off the claim for high percentage conditioner Karl Broberg. The son of Private Vow has shown his customary early zip in each of his starts in 2018, but has tired late and finished fourth both times. He moves back towards the outside after being drawn along the rail at Fair Grounds for former trainer Joseph Foster.

I expect the five-year-old gelding to move forward in his initial effort for a barn that has been winning races in bunches of late. Jockey Luis Negron should have options from the 9-hole, but with a clean break you can expect Sea Vow to be winging on the engine. Hopefully he can take them gate to wire to kick off the Pick 5.

My final play of the evening will come in the featured $170,000 LA Bred Premier Night Championship.

#6 Mobile Bay is the deserving 9-5-morning line favorite as he looks to win the race in back-to-back years. The son of Lone Star Special has only raced once since his triumph in the event last February, but it was a game gate to wire score in the Louisiana Champions Day Classic at Fair Grounds in December. In that start, the six-year-old opened up a massive lead, appeared to be tiring in the lane, but found a second gear in holding off his rivals in the final couple of furlongs.

I have no desire to try to beat on Saturday night, but I will try to connect on a cold exacta with #1 Temprano. The 8-1 shot on the morning line has shown an affinity for the racetrack with 2 wins and 2 seconds in 4 tries and has the speed to be involved early. If he and my top choice avoid an early duel they have a big shot of running one-two to the wire.

With #2 Underpressure and #5 Grande Basin likely to take the most support underneath Mobile Bay in the exotics, this exacta could end up returning an okay number.
