Spot Plays for Monmouth Park on Aug. 28
A trio of black-type events for New Jersey-bred runners will highlight the racing action at Monmouth Park on Sunday.
Race 5 – New Jersey Breeders' H.
The $100,000 dash for the boys attracted a field of eight contenders for the six-furlong heat. The Eddie Owens-trained #2 Speaking (5-2) brings excellent form to the field and I will give him the nod in a tough race.
Gelded son of Mr Speaker missed by a neck in a stakes try here three back, then followed that with an allowance romp which preceded a strong third-place finish in the Jersey Shore S. last time out. The dark bay has achieved previous stakes glory on the course and comes in off of a sizzling half-mile drill on Wednesday. Albin Jimenez retains the mount.
Race 7 – Eleven North H.
Fillies and mares will go six panels on the dirt in the $100,000 affair. #5 Jersey Jewel (7-2) ran a winning race in defeat last time out in her initial try for Tyler Servis, and she gets top billing. The two-time stakes-placed daughter of Wicked Rich led in late stretch most recently before being run down late, and a forward move off of that effort will make her a serious win contender in her second for this barn. Manny Jiminez will be in the stirrups.
#8 I Can Run (4-1) intrigues as an exotics contender in the cast. Tourist filly has displayed solid form in a pair of route tries as of late, and she is interesting on the cut back in trip on this day. The capable filly will be a nice price, too.
Race 9 – Charles Hesse III H.
A total of 10 boys will travel 1 1/16 miles on the main strip in the $125,000 contest. #5 Prendimi (8-1) has been trounced in both of his 2022 assignments to date, but the gelding has back class and also an affinity for the Monmouth surface. Trained by Luis Carvajal, the dark bay son of Dance With Ravens has compiled a sharp 17-5-6-3 mark on the oval, and he has displayed substantial early speed in the past that could be a major factor in the field on Sunday. Samy Camacho will guide the $473,000 earner.
