Spot Plays for Sunday's stakes at Lone Star Park

A total of seven black-type races will be contested on a fine nine-race card at Lone Star Park Sunday. Here are some horses of interest:
Race 3 -- Yellow Rose
Six Texas-bred fillies and mares will go postward in the dirt dash, and Lone Star specialist #3 Brave Daisey (9-2) looks like a solid value play. After posting a pair of wins and a pair of seconds in her first four attempts on the main track, the Hurley trainee recorded her first unplaced effort locally after an early duel last time. The mare appears poised to improve off that effort and peak in her third outing of 2020.
Race 5 -- Richard King Turf
The Allen Dupuy-trained #7 Redatory (7-5) may not offer value in the win pool, but the morning-line choice will be hard to upend on Sunday, nonetheless. Oratory gelding comes off a strong turf stakes win at Sam Houston, and he looks like a single to me to close out the early Pick-4.
Race 6 -- Groovy
Nine sophomores will vie in a six-furlong dash, with Steve Asmussen’s #6 Good Judgement (5-2) getting top billing. Too Much Bling colt has been first or second in each of his five career outings, and he posted a smart prep victory on the course last time out. Stewart Elliot retains the ride.
Race 8 -- San Jacinto Turf
Eight fillies and mares will knock heads in the 1 1/16-mile turf affair, and #7 Herb’s Love (10-1) has plenty of appeal at a nice price. Dark bay 4-year-old tired after being close to a swift pace last time, but the Pish charge is a winner on the surface and will receive a much better pace scenario, as well. Deshawn Parker guides the Texas-bred.
Race 9 -- Star of Texas
The finale will be contested at a mile on the dirt. Ten are signed on including William Martin’s #4 He’s So Zazzy (3-1), who exits a trio of open races at Oaklawn Park and will thrive on the return to state-bred company. Son of Oratory was runner-up to a nice winner in this race last season, and I think he will go one better on Sunday under Quinonez.
