Stakes Spot Plays for Kentucky Downs for September 15

September 11th, 2020

A trio of lucrative stakes events on the turf will lead a rescheduled 11-race card at Kentucky Downs on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

TVG S.

A total of six fillies and mares will travel 1 5/16 miles in the $500,000 affair. Graham Motion’s #3 Mrs. Sippy (1-1) looks too good on paper to go against in this spot. Blame 5-year-old was a neck second in the Waya (G3) at Saratoga when making her 2020 debut most recently, and the Grade 2 queen could surely improve second time back. Joel Rosario has the assignment.

Untapable S.

In the 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 2-year-old fillies, a very competitive field of 11 will go postward. #11 Emro (6-1) is the top selection for conditioner Brad Cox. Point of Entry filly impressed me in her response to being challenged at first asking when pulling away to a convincing score. $130,000 yearling purchase does draw widest, but that could be a benefit in a cast with a lot of early gas.

#1 Lady Goldstart (8-1) is also of interest to me at a square number. Ian Wilkes second timer was a game winner on debut and will try her hand on the turf on Saturday. Flatter filly possesses some early zip and will be dangerous if she takes to the green.

Music City S.

The finale is for 3-year-old fillies travelling 6 1/2 furlongs. #10 Kimari (3-1), who is cross-entered to Saturday's Ladies Sprint (G3), is one of my favorite horses in training and I have to give her the nod for Wesley Ward if she opts for this spot. Group-1 placed daughter of Munnings was a superb runner-up in the Commonwealth Cup (G1) at Royal Ascot when facing the boys most recently, and her morning works have been strong in the interim. Bay runs big from on or off the pace.

Coronation Cup S. second #11 Miss J McKay (10-1) and #5 Enola Gay (9-2) are the two horses that I will play underneath my top pick. Each of the fillies will be doing their best work from off the pace behind a swift early tempo.
