Stakes Spot Plays for Saratoga on Sept. 6

September 5th, 2020

A trio of stakes races, led by two graded events, will headline the action at Saratoga on Sunday afternoon.

RACE 9 - Spinaway (G1)

Juvenile fillies will travel 7 furlongs in the Sunday feature. I will side with maiden #6 Guana Cay (3-1) from the barn of Wesley Ward to graduate at the top level. Air Force Blue lass ran into one of the better maiden winners of the meeting when runner-up in her dirt debut last time out against the boys, and the Kentucky-bred should benefit from racing with fillies in the Spinaway. Bay gets a good outside post combined with Irad in the irons.

RACE 10 - Honorable Miss (G2)

An excellent field of seven will contest the 6-furlong dash on the dirt. #1 Come Dancing (8-5) is rounding back into her better form and exits a solid fourth in the deep Ballerina (G1) on the surface for Carlos Martin. Dark bay daughter of Malibu Moon is a Grade 1 vixen on the surface and figures to get a perfect trip tucked in behind a pair of speedsters to the top of the lane. Irad will be in the stirrups atop the 6-year-old.

RACE 11 - Lucky Coin S.

Turf dash at 5 1/2 furlongs is competitive on paper in a field lacking a standout. I like #8 Pulsate (4-1) to run them down late beneath Luis Saez. Speightstown colt has arguably the best turn of foot in the cast, and the chestnut will be peaking in his third race of 2020. Ribaudo trainee shows a swift half-mile drill in his most recent work as well.
