Stakes Spot Plays for Woodbine on September 19

The $1 million Woodbine Mile (G1) highlights a four-pack of stakes races to be contested north of the border on Saturday.

Woodbine Mile

I have two main interests in the deep Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” event. #1 March to the Arch is a very good middle distance turf performer and exits a huge victory in the King Edward (G2) on the course. Casse pupil is unbeaten at Woodbine, and the race is expected to have a swift pace which will aid his late run from the rail.

#4 Starship Jubilee is a Grade 1 winner on the oval who shows an excellent mark at the distance. Attard trainee is all class, and the Indy Wind mare should get a really good trip tracking a swift pace on Saturday, too. Justin Stein will be up.

Singspiel (G3)

A cast of 10 will run 1 1/4 miles on the lawn in a competitive contest. If #10 Jungle Fighter can carve out a sensible trip from the outside post, then I think that the 4-year-old could be a major factor inside the final furlong. Son of Animal Kingdom had a decent prep when an allowance second most recently, and I expect him to peak third time off the long break while stretching out on Saturday. The rider upgrade to Husbands adds to the appeal.

Ontario Racing S.

A field of seven juveniles will travel 5 furlongs on the inner turf. #3 Sky’s Not Falling was third in the Skidmore S. at Saratoga in a rapidly run event, and the Seville gelding will face a more realistic task on Saturday in his local debut. Trombetta trainee has a pair of turf-winning siblings, and I think he will be tough to upend as one of my top plays on the card. Luring Contreras to ride is a major coup, as well.

Woodbine Cares S.

Juvenile fillies will dash five panels on the inner turf in a field that drew seven. In an affair loaded with pace, I am expecting #7 Illegal Smile to track the tempo and take command in the stretch from the outside post. Wesley Ward filly was a solid third behind a sharp top pair in the Catch a Glimpse S. on the course most recently, showing improvement when removing blinkers in the process. Camacho filly gets the nod under Contreras.
