Sunday spot plays at Oaklawn Park
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- Cool, overcast, but mainly dry are the forecasted conditions here at Oaklawn Park this afternoon and for tomorrow's Southwest Day program. Here are some horses of interest on Sunday's nine-race card.
Race 4
This Arkansas-bred maiden has attracted a mix of three- and four-year-olds, and in situations like this I prefer older horses facing sophomores at this point in the season. #4 EAST MOON LAKE (4-1) got in a get-fit trip earlier this month against open maiden special weight company, which may prove crucial as his main competition among the older set are all coming off significant layoffs. Placed twice at this level to start his career, and perhaps will get the necessary pace from Bebop Shoes and Crow Mountain to set up a winning rally.
Also keep an eye on #12 CALLE PATRON (10-1), who is working very well of late for his first outing in more than a year. Fourth in his debut, he returns for a high percentage barn after getting blitzed by the talented Mitole second out.
Race 8
#6 SHAHARAZAD (10-1) has shown potential in two starts thus far for Shadwell Stable and trainer Dan Peitz, just missing in her debut at Churchill Downs and following up with a maiden score here on opening day. A daughter of champion and Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Street Sense, the added distance and potential lively pace could work to her advantage.
Race 9
#3 THE MONEY DANCE (6-1) ran well here last spring advancing through his maiden condition, but was placed in several tough spots following an N1X score at Belmont including a pair of stakes on the grass, which he did not handle, and the Indiana Derby (G3). Better spotted for his four-year-old debut.
