The 53rd Kentucky Futurity Headlines Star-Studded Sunday Stakes Program At Red Mile

 

Here is our special addendum TwinSpires harness blog with our examination of the major races at The Red Mile on Sunday, Oct. 7, the last program of the Grand Circuit meet in Kentucky.

ALLERAGE RAVE ON

The women pacers and trotters are the focus for two Allerage Farms event.

Opening the entire program for the day is the Mares Trot, worth $72,000. There is no searching for class here; it sits in the sulky of Broadway Donna. She is, though, the morning-line (ML) choice and will get much of the action. A great ML has been assigned to Ice Attraction. She had a terrible trip in a “Versatility” split and came back to fair well at the Ohio “Jug” fair. This is a great spot for her if she lives up to a miscalculated ML.

The late Allerage is a $98,500 mile for the mare pacers. The division leader, Shartin N, has not slowed down through the long season and neither has her quantity of financial support. To get a bargain here we have to look deeply into the others’ recent trips, going beyond Caviart Ally and Pure Country for a price worth a play. Blazin Britches has been raced lightly at four and seems to be coming into a shape near five to handle the upper class. There’s your price.

TATTER TALES

The first of two$220,000-plus Tattersalls Pace miles for the soph pacers, demands further respect for the division leader, Courtly Choice. He may still offer a worthy win price as bettors return to Stay Hungry and over-evaluate Thingbig Dreambig. End of this ‘Tatter’ tale.

The next Tattersalls Pace will mostly likely find Dorsoduro Hanover the public choice but this is a good spot to bet around him for purpose and price. In fact, this could be a huge mile for Odds On Lauderdale. Toss out his Bluegrass (though he made a positive move in a negative trip), look at his Pocono win as an easy mark for the class, and applaud his Meadows stakes effort on Aug. 20. He was aggressive to the half and it cost him badly at the three-turn oval. Here, he may look more like he did in Philly’s stakes on Aug. 12 and that may be enough to take down the favorites.

FILLY FUTURITY

The soph-filly trotters’ futurity is divided into two heats. The top five finishers in each $48,000 heat return for the $329,000 final.

The first field is the tighter of the two heats. After busting up twice in the Buckette, Courtney Hanover, all she has to do it keep her stride in motion and she can beat any of these. The public will penalize her for galloping too much but the smart bettor will look at her smooth races and then her 8-1 ML and give her the shot.

The second heat is measured by the season’s best—Atlanta and Manchego, followed by the talents of Plunge Blue Chip. It’s tough to get around these three if they are well gaited in this mile because they will be in the final, says the math involved.

There is not enough money to go around after the public pounds that trio but there is an outsider that can take advantage of anything that develops to slow them down. That filly is Looking For Zelda. She should make the final easily but this is the one heat she may be able to win—and at a big price.

The filly final will probably go to one of the low-priced public choices but on their way to that battle they could be surprised at the Buckette winner because “Zelda” is good, getting better, and not getting bet. A win with her here, complemented by a win with “Courtney” and you can sit back and watch the final.

CLASSIC COLT FUTURITY #53

Two $93,000 elim heats create the $620,000 Kentucky Futurity Final for glamour-boy trotters.

With only six in the first heat there is not much you can do to beat Crystal Fashion. Jim Campbell’s colt missed only slightly becoming the chief of this division and considering his major loss was to a filly (Atlanta) he has been the division’s top dog all along. If the crowd follows the ML and makes Tactical Landing the main choice, take the price on Crystal Fashion.

In heat two there is a similar situation as Six Pack meets Met’s Hall, with the former the ML choice and perhaps the crowd’s favorite. Good, so we get a better price on Met’s Hall then and stay on the side of the season’s most overlooked member of the glamour-boy division. We have been with him all along, so a price as second choice here now that everyone has caught up with us is more than fair.
