Thoughts on the $75,727 Pick 6 Carryover at Saratoga

The good news is that there's a $75,727 carryover in the $2 Pick 6 when racing resumes Wednesday afternoon at Saratoga. The bad news is that forecasted rain could wreak havoc on the sequence with four of the six races scheduled for the turf. The Pick 6 runs from races 5-10, with post time for the first leg scheduled at 3:28 p.m. (EDT). Here's an early look at some horses of interest that appear worthy of inclusion on tickets. Race 7 -- N1X Allowance If this race remains on the turf, #2 MASCHA (6-5) appears a potentially solid single on most tickets. Only stablemate #8 Altea appears classy enough to cause serious problems. Mascha makes her U.S. debut here for Chad Brown. Last season, the four-year-old ran a close second to Homerique in the Prix de Psyche (G3) at Deauville. That stablemate went on to win the Beaugay (G3) and New York (G2) for Brown before capping a stable trifecta in the Diana (G1) on July 13. Race 8 -- New York-bred N1X Allowance #2 SOMETHING JOYFUL (8-1) shows some significant gaps between races during her stop-and-start career, but has generally run well each time she's started. Her worst margin of defeat has been a little over three lengths. Certainly could have been in need of a race when three lengths sixth in her June 1 comeback from an extended break. Appears a must-use on the turf, though how she'd potentially fare on the main track is unknown. Race 9 -- $100,000 Shine Again Owner Brittlyn Stable and trainer Jose Camejo pulled off an upset in last week's Honorable Miss (G2) with the Louisiana-bred filly Minit to Stardom. They'll try and do the same in this seven-furlong sprint with another native of that state, #4 MR. AL'S GAL (8-1). This mare shares a similar profile. A former mainstay on her home circuit with a fair amount of restricted stakes success, she enters this off a game allowance win at Delaware Park where she held on gamely through a contested pace. Freshened for nearly six weeks, the five-year-old looks like one to catch against a group that lacks a standout. Race 10 -- Maiden Claiming Whether this race stays on the turf or is run at seven furlongs on the main track, #7 DOWNSTREAM (10-1) has the opportunity to stretch her speed further than before. A fading seventh behind Newspaperofrecord in her debut last summer, she reappeared nearly 11 months later on July 6 at Belmont and finished in the same position in a race she probably needed after such a long absence. The daughter of City Zip takes a meaningful drop in class from maiden special weight company here and should be prominent from the start.
