Thoughts on the Swale-Holy Bull Double at Gulfstream Park
Throughout the month of February, TwinSpires.com bettors can opt in and earn a 20% bonus (up to $100 per day) on the gross winnings from any successful Double wager that includes any of the Road to the Kentucky Derby series preps. Click here for details.
On Saturday, bettors have a total of six Double wagers to choose from that include the Withers (G3) at Aqueduct, Holy Bull (G2) at Gulfstream Park, and the Robert B. Lewis (G3) at Santa Anita. We'll take a swing at the Double on Races 10-11 at Gulfstream Park that includes the $150,000 Swale (G3) and the Holy Bull.
Swale (Race 10)
#9 ZENDEN (8-1) has won both starts for a barn clicking at more than 30% this meet. In a race full of speed, this stalk-and-pounce type might benefit from a fast, contested pace. He overcame trouble in his debut to win going away and won the $75,000 Buffalo Man in December by two lengths.
#11 COUNTRY SINGER (5-1), third to Zenden in their mutual debut, dominated the opposition in his next two starts while showing speed throughout. Stuck with a wide draw here, he'll either be sent to contest or possibly have to get an education by coming off from off the pace for the first time. Picks up Jose Ortiz.
Holy Bull (Race 11)
Maximus Mischief will be a strong favorite here, but the Holy Bull has been a race historically unkind to chalk and the presence of other speed could complicate matters for him. Second choice #6 MIHOS (5-2) is sure to appreciate two turns after getting up late to win the one-mile Mucho Macho Man earlier in the year. Third in a key maiden first out, he looked good graduating before his Mucho Macho Man score for Jimmy Jerkens. His sire, Cairo Prince, won this race in 2014.
Our $10 Double is 9,11 with 6 = $20.
