TwinSpires 2018 Harness Players’ Horse Of The Year Leads Parade Of Profits

Each December the TwinSpires harness-racing department studies the 12-month archives of suggested contenders posted in the exclusive weekly harness blog. From that review, we categorize all of the winners that have paid at least two digits (4-1 and up) in the order of win prices, high to low (Features and Freshman Frolics choices include place and show prices and the track at which they won). We add a separate list for our winners of specific stakes we featured through the 52 weeks, also at 4-1 and up. There were many more winners posted during the year that paid 7-2 and lower, but for the sake of space and a braggart’s love for success, we present only two-digit winners. Our usual recap is presented below the annual review. First and foremost, we announce the TwinSpires Harness Players’ Horse of the Year. Each year the horse earning the title comes from either our features list or the horses-to-watch list (H2W) and is the highest paying winner from all our posts of the year. The TwinSpires Harness Players’ Horse of the Year for 2018 is Ella Michelle A. She recorded the biggest win mutual for a TwinSpires harness blog selection in 2018, On Dec. 12 at Yonkers, Ella Michelle A won and paid at 40.75-1. Across the board, her totals were $83.50, $18.40, $9.00 as a solo choice from the H2W list. Ella Michelle A is a seven-year-old daughter of Cammibest, out of the Bonamax mare Namba Girl. Daily Double and the winner of the $22.60 exacta and $51.00 trifecta. Full Explosion (24-1) finished fourth and Jacinta Hanover (36-1) finished sixth. Justcallmeronald (14-1), was beaten by a 5-2 shot at the Meadowlands in the night’s selected feature. On Friday, Dec. 28, our Power Plays feature at Western Fair was on the program cancelled due to inclement weather resulting from a thaw in the frozen ground followed by heavy rain. At the Meadows in the afternoon our Power Plays feature offered two on the toteboard, the winner, Lenonaideshine ($3.00, $2.10, $2.10) and exacta partner, Starmaker ($5.20, $3.00). That was a $10.20 exacta. Our third PP choice, Hit It Maestro (8-1) finished sixth. Saturday, Dec. 29, We lined up a Power Plays feature at Flamboro that presented all the necessary elements for exotic success. One of our choices, Jodykins, scratched and the public favorite won. The three exotic partners were the horses on our PP list. Second was Juliana ($5.70, $3.70), completing an exacta worth $24.90. Third was Stonebridge Loyal ($2.50), setting up the $44.80 trifecta. Fourth was Desolation Row (23-1), the remaining horse to cash the superfecta worth $206.80.
