TwinSpires Players’ 2020 Harness Horse Of The Year Star Of Season

When the year winds down, the TwinSpires harness-racing department reviews its 12-month archives of suggested contenders posted in the exclusive weekly harness blog. From that review, we categorize winners paying 4-1 and up ant then list them (this year in chronological order) including place and show prices and the track at which they won. We add to the list our winners of featured stakes winners.

In 2020 there are less winners to report, of course, since racing went into lockdown, eliminating and rescheduling many stakes events and the usual business of programmed events. This is duly noted in the list.

There were many more winners posted during the year that paid 7-2 and lower but for the sake of space and a braggart’s love for success, the list presents only two-digit winners. Anyone wishing to see the entire list should make a request on Twitter @FrankCotolo. I will email the entire cast of winners to anyone requesting it.

First and foremost, we announce the TwinSpires Harness Players’ Horse of the Year. Each year the horse earning the title comes from either our features list or the horses-to-watch list (H2W). Only one qualification is met to receive the honor—the horse must be the highest paying winner from our posts of the year. 

Players’ Best Payer

The TwinSpires Harness Players’ Horse of the Year for 2018 is Lugar (Famously—Chili Vanili—Cumin).

The 12-year-old gelding trotter recorded the biggest win mutual for a TwinSpires harness blog selection in 2020, on July 10 at Vernon Downs. He paid $115.00, $35.20, $12.60.

Lugar was bred by Polo Stables, FL, trained by Ashley Eldred and driven by Mitchell Cushing. Congratulations from the harness editors and bettors at TwinSpires.
