War of Will, Anothertwistafate recipients of Bad Luck Board
A few strides out of the gate in Saturday's $1 million TwinSpires.com Louisiana Derby (G2), 4-5 favorite War of Will virtually lost all chance at a sweep of Fair Grounds' Kentucky Derby (G1) preps when his hind end gave out briefly. Later assessed to have suffered a patella muscle injury by trainer Mark Casse, War of Will suffered his first career loss on dirt when a lackadaisical ninth in the field of 11.
Twenty-four hours later, in the Sunland Park Derby (G3), Northern California invader Anothertwistafate missed by a neck in what was a track-record setting performance from Cutting Humor, who got first crack at the tiring leaders at the quarter-pole while Anothertwistafate had to wait briefly behind horses for running room before commencing a rally that came up just short.
We at TwinSpires.com consider the losses by War of Will and Anothertwistafate to be bad luck and in part unforeseeable via normal handicapping processes. In our quest to do things differently, TwinSpires has instituted a Bad Luck Board. Every Monday, TwinSpires will select a race or races from the preceding weekend in which we feel unforeseen circumstances or just plain bad luck cost our players and compensate them.
In our attempt to deliver a win one loss at a time, TwinSpires will refund $10 to all players who bet $10 or more to Win on War of Will. For those that bet $10 or more to Win on Anothertwistafate, they will be compensated $45, the amount a $10 Win wager would have paid had Anothertwistafate won.
