Why Mighty Heart will win the Canadian Triple Crown

Companion piece for Why Mighty Heart won’t win the Canadian Triple Crown

Lawrence Cordes’ homebred Mighty Heart will aim to become the 13th Canadian Triple Crown winner, and the first since Wando accomplished the feat in 2003, when he goes postward in Saturday’s C$400,000 Breeders’ S. at Woodbine. The Dramedy colt has been superb in dominating both the Queen’s Plate on the Tapeta and the Prince of Wales S. on dirt, and he will try his hand on the green in the 12-furlong turf endeavor.

Trained by Josie Carroll, the Ontario-bred was unplaced from a pair of starts at Fair Grounds to kick off his career but has blossomed since coming north of the border.

A powerful maiden victor on July 11, Mighty Heart was a subsequent third in an allowance test but has morphed into a different kind of horse when stretching out in distance.

The bay led at every call in overcoming the 13 post in his 7 1/2-length romp in the historic Queen’s Plate, and the colt showed his versatility when rallying from off the tempo in a going-away victory at Fort Erie in the Prince of Wales.

The rapidly ascending 3-year-old has trained in smart fashion in the interim, with a bullet move over the local turf course on Saturday.

Mighty Heart was unplaced in his lone prior endeavor on the weeds but is a much better animal now, and I have confidence that he will prosper in his second turf assignment. His half-sister, Touch of Emma, was a winner on the green, while his half-brother In Memory of Floyd finished runner-up in both of his lifetime tries on turf.

Might Heart will face a tall task competing in his third classic event since September 12, but he's in lifetime form and a proven commodity going a route of ground. The colt can run from on or off the pace, and he is training well in preparation of his date with history as well.

I expect Mighty Heart to come out victorious and become the 13th Canadian Triple Crown hero.
