Yonkers set to host final preliminary rounds of Matchmaker, Levy
This Friday and Saturday evening Yonkers Raceway will host the fifth and final preliminaries for both the Blue Chip Matchmaker Series and George Morton Levy Memorial Series for Free-For-All pacers and while several horses have already secured berths in their respective finals, several others are squarely on the bubble.
Friday's first BCMM division features a trio of mares that have already punched their ticket to the $375,000 final on April 21 - Motu Moonbeam N (Brent Holland), Lakeisha Hall (George Brennan) and defending champion Mackenzie A (Jordan Stratton), but the other four - Dudesalady (Tim Tetrick), Lady Shadow (Jason Bartlett), Miss Irish Rose (Larry Stahlbaum) and Call Me Queen Be (Scott Zeron) all face win or else scenarios. Lady Shadow has only won once in four legs and has been third once and fourth once at odds-on and looms the biggest disappointment of the series thus far.
One race later in the second BCMM split, prelim winners Sell A Bit (Stratton), Medusa (Yannick Gingras), Twinkle (Eric Goodell) and Scandalicious (Tetrick) all are within reach of making the final, but Eclipse Me N (Daniel Dube), Newborn Sassy (Tetrick), Mach It A Par (Bartlett) and Safe From Terror (Holland) absolutely must win in order to have any chance of reaching the final. Twinkle sports two victories in the series and missed last week, so this Friday should be a good tightener for the Bettor's Delight mare.
Then several races later in the last BCMM elim, slated as the penultimate race on the card, railbound L A Delight (Gingras) absolutely must win this week after bypassing two legs thus far, while three-time series winner Shartin N (Tetrick) returns after missing the previous week and will look to use this leg as a tightener for the final. Wishy Washy Girl (Bartlett), Clear Idea (Mark Macdonald), Shesjustadelight N (Ron Cushing), Vintage Babe (Holland), Dewar N Soda (Zeron) and Gina Grace N (Stahlbaum) all seem destined for the consolation.
Maryland-breds Dudesalady, Lady Shadow, Newborn Sassy, Twinkle, Clear Idea, Vintage Babe and Dewar N Soda have combined for three wins and five second-place finishes in the series and there is still a chance that three of the Winbak Farm products could earn a berth in the lucrative final and three others could make the consolation. Twinkle has been one of the genuine surprises in the series, while Lady Shadow has been the biggest disappointment thus far.
