Batavia Downs Harness Racing Season
All Systems Go For Batavia Downs' Opener July 22nd!
Excitement. Anticipation. Optimism.
Those three words are probably the best to describe the upcoming 2013 harness racing season at Batavia Downs beginning on Monday, July 22nd with a 6:30 p.m. post.
The 72-day harness schedule will be highlighted once again by popular promotions, a new addition in the betting format and some new faces in the trainer and driver colony.
The 11th Annual $50,000 Robert J. Kane Memorial Pace is slated for Saturday, October 5th. This race usually attracts some top, hard-hitting pacers from all over the country and the race program usually is solid from top to bottom. Previous winners include Foiled Again, the richest pacer in harness racing history.
Exciting New York Sires Stakes action begins on August 16, the Empire states best 2 and 3 yr-olds trotters and pacers compete in eight events worth over $1,000,000. Also this season the Downs will host the NY County fair finals on August 28.
The driving colony will once again feature the likes of Ray Fisher Jr., Kevin Cummings, John Cummings, Jim McNeight, Shawn McDonough, Ron Beback Jr. and Jack Flanigen but will be joined by newcomers Jacques Beaudoin, Gaston Lareau, Mario Dessureault and Fred Cohen, the last three making the move up from Pompano Park in Florida.
Racing will be held Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights in July with 6:30 p.m. posts. Then in August, racing switches to a Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday format with posts remaining at 6:30 p.m. with the exception of Sundays which will go off at 1:15 p.m.
The season ends on Saturday, December 7th.
Batavia Downs 2013 Wagering
As far as the wagering format goes, Batavia Downs has added a second Pick-3 to its menu along with a new Pick-5 ($2 minimum). The Pick-5 replaces the Pick-6. To win the Pick-5 customer must pick select five winners in the Pick-5 sequence or the entire pool carries over. Batavia Downs will also be part of the USTA Stragetic Wagering program, beginning August 7, the Pick-4 pool will be guarantee at $3,000.
The full array of Batavia Downs bets is as follows: $2 win, place and show; $1 exacta; $1 daily double; 50-cent trifecta; 50-cent pick 3; 50-cent pick 4; $2 pick 5; 10-cent superfecta.

About Batavia Downs
Batavia Downs is a harness racing track and casino in Batavia, New York. It is located in Genesee County between Buffalo and Rochester just off of the New York State Thruway, the I-90. It opened on September 20, 1940, and is the oldest lighted harness racetrack in the United States. The track is exactly 1/2 mile long.
