Blue Grass Stakes Results

Winning the 2014 Blue Grass at Keeneland was the last step in a plan that began after Dance With Fate finished eighth in the 2012 BC Juvenile.

The dark bay colt lived up to his connections’ expectations with a rallying 1 3/4-length victory in the Blue Grass.

Dance With Fate ran between rivals in 10th as Pablo del Monte set the pace up front. Biding his time in the 14-strong field, the eventual winner angled out six wide rounding the turn and offered a sweeping move to reach contention entering the stretch.

Medal Count also powered around the far turn and appeared ready to take command but couldn’t keep up with Dance With Fate’s late turn of foot and was forced to settle for second.

Pablo del Monte took third and was followed under the wire by Big Bazinga.

The Blue Grass awarded points on a 100-40-20-10 scale to the top four toward a starting berth in the Kentucky Derby.

Dance With Fate and Medal Count both took advantage of that, finishing sixth and eighth in that classic, respectively. While Dance With Fate hasn’t competed since, Medal Count went on to be third in the Belmont Stakes.
