Matron Stakes Race History
The Matron Stakes is a Group I horse race run each year at Leopardstown Racecourse in Dublin, Ireland. The race was formerly known as the Gilltown Stud Stakes while it was run at the Curragh, but in the mid-1980's it was renamed and further in 2002 the race was moved to Leopardstown permanently.
While no horse can claim most wins due to no repeat winners, Johnny Murtagh holds the record for most wins by a jockey with 3 (1995, 2004, 2010).
The race is part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series, offering the winners automatic entry into the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.
