Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp Race History

The Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp is Group I flat thoroughbred horse race run each year at the Longchamp Racecourse in Paris, France. Inaugurated in 1957, the race was named for the Abbaye de Longchamp, an abbey established by Isabelle (the sister of Saint Louis) at what is now the northern edge of the racecourse.

Currently four different horses are tied for most wins with two, and all four won their races back-to-back. Those horses are Texanita (1963, 1964), Gentilhombre (1976, 1977), Committed (1984, 1985), and Lochsong (1993, 1994). Since 1975, jockey Yves Saint-Martin has held the record for most wins at five. Saint-Martin is a fifteen time French Champion Jockey widely considered one of the best French riders in history and is credited with 3,314 wins during his three decade career.

As part of the Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" Challenge Series, the winner automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
