Prix de l'Opéra Race History
The Prix de l'Opéra is Group I flat thoroughbred horse race run each year at the Longchamp Racecourse in Paris, France. Inaugurated in 1974, the race was initially classified as a Group 2 race and contested at 1,850 metres. In 2000, the race was extended to 2,000 metres and elevated to Group 1 status.
A few notable winners include European Champion Three-Year-Old FIllies: Mandesha (2006) and Petrushka (2000). In 2020, Tarnawa won the race prior to taking first at the Breeders' Cup Turf later that year.
As part of the Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" Challenge Series, the winner automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.
