Prix Morny Race History
The Prix Morny is Group I flat thoroughbred horse race run each year at the Deauville Racecourse in Deauville, France. Inaugurated in 1865, the race is named in honor of owner-breeder Auguste De Morny, the French statesman who founded the Deauville Racecourse.
In its infancy, the race was contested at various lengths until it was cemented at 1,200 metres in 1887. In 1911, the name was shortened from the original Prix de Morny to its current name. Georges Stern, the famed French jockey known as "The King of the Derbies" with over 1,000 wins, holds the record for most wins with a whopping ten (1900, 1901, 1902, 1904, 1908, 1911, 1912, 1920, 1921, 1925).
As part of the Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" Challenge Series, the winner automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
