Ainsworth Turf Sprint Stakes Race History
The Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint Stakes, now raced as the Ainsworth Turf Sprint Stakes, is a Grade II horse race run each year at Kentucky Downs. Inaugurated in 1998 as the Kentucky Cup Turf Dash Stakes, the race is contested at 6 furlongs on turf (although it was run at 6 1/2 furlongs between 2014 and 2018).
Bran broke both the speed record and track record in 2022 turning in a time of 1:07.41, dethroning 2021 winner Gear Jockey (1:07.90). Proforma (2018) captured the 6 1/2 furlong record in its final year at that length with a time of 1:15.72. Robby Albarado holds the record for most wins by a jockey with four, winning in 2000, 2001, 2015 and 2016. George R. Arnold II became the winningest trainer with his third all time win in 2023.
As part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" Series, winners are automatically entered into the Breeders' Turf Sprint.
