Yorkshire Oaks Race History

The Yorkshire Oaks is a Group 1 flat horse race run each year at York Racecourse in York, England. Inaugurated in 1849, the race is contested at 2,385 metres and takes place in late August.

The Yorkshire Oaks is one of the UK's premier races for female horses, often featuring horses that had previously competed in the Epsom Oaks, one of Britain's five Classics. The most recent horse to win both was Snowfall in 2021. Other notable recent winners include Enable (2019), The Fugue (2013), Peeping Fawn (2007), and Islington (2002 & 2003).

Fred Archer, the legendary English jockey known for his dominance in all five of the British Classics in the late 1800's, holds the record for most wins with an astounding eight (1875, 1877, 1878, 1879, 1882, 1883, 1884, 1886).

As part of the Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" Challenge Series, the winner automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.
