Dubai Turf Information

The Dubai Turf (G1) received the current race name in 2015, previously known as the Dubai Duty Free. The 1,800 meter (9 furlongs) race is on Dubai World Cup night at the end of March. The race offers a purse of $6 million with a first place prize of $3.6 million. The race was inaugurated in 1996 and is open to southern hemisphere 3-year-olds and up and northern hemisphere 4-year-olds and up. Between 1996 and 2009, the Dubai Turf was run at Nad Al Sheeba Racecourse before moving to Meydan in 2010. Just A Way set the speed record at Meydan of 1:45.52 in 2014.

In 2006, the race became the second leg of the four race Asian Mile Challenge. Local turf races that produce runners for the Dubai Turf include the 1,800 meter Singspiel Stakes (G3) in early January and the 1,800 meter Al Rashidiya (G2) in early February. The Balanchine (G2) is another 1,800 meter turf race in mid-February, and the final prep before the Dubai Turf is the 1,800 meter Jebel Hatta (G3) in early March.

The 2016 and 2017 winners of the Jebel Hatta both failed to win or place in the Dubai Turf despite excellent race records and credentials. The previous two Jebel Hatta winners both retired following the race and the last horse to sweep both the Jebel Hatta and Dubai Turf (Duty Free) was Sajjhaa in 2013. So evaluate all the contenders for those races leading up to the Dubai Turf and research results, training activity and more stats and horsemen info at http://carnivalhorsemen.dubairacingclub.com.

The Europeans often dominate the Dubai Turf both in numbers and in the betting. But American runners to watch also race in the 1 1/16 mile Tampa Bay Stakes in early February before shipping to Dubai to consider a final prep or train for the Dubai Turf.
