Australian harness continues at Redcliffe

Australian harness racing is on target at BetAmerica tonight, May 13, at 11 p.m ET, which is Thursday afternoon, May 14, at Redcliffe Harness Racing Club in Queensland. 

Here is our analysis for the eight-race card.

Race 1

Another group of non-winners will open the program. This wayward class is always open for debate, but we’ll take a stand with #4 Trump Em Babe. He was well supported last week, but did not have a chance to prove the betting was worth it, since he broke poorly and did not recover. 

#6 Sweet Scoot has earned some purse checks and will get another, if not the biggest share, here. 

Race 2

Here come the 2-year-olds, with some well-bred pacers learning their craft. Donny Smith’s #1 Sweet Lombo won’t have many fanciers, with no stats available, but we know Sweet Lou delivers a bunch of good in his progeny.

The sire may be the only edge, but it’s bound to reveal itself at strong odds for a blue blood. 

Race 3

A trip filled with traffic stopped #1 Blackjewel from catching two dueling pacers last time out, though she cleared the rest of the field. She looks great here from the rail. 

Local mare #7 Maghera Maggie was well-meant last time out. She was matching motors first over, after she left well and passed her challenger, and finished second, as she gave in to a late charger. 

Race 4

Lola Weidemann is doing well with #9 Too Good For You and brings the gelding back to Redcliffe for another go at the winner’s circle. The son of Mr Feelgood makes his presence known at the wire a lot but may offer more cash from a wide post.

Weidemann’s #7 Ima Regal Jet is also good to go. He was racing better than his odds against some Redcliffe rioters last time out and should be in the mix deep into the last few moves.

Race 5

Scratched from her most recent assignment at Redcliffe, #4 Tulhurst Kate returns to pick up where she left off for David Russell, with good measure and form. 

To pump up an exotic price, look for a good second spot at the wire from #1 Alsjeansmaxsstar. 

Race 6

We have been waiting for #4 Torque Is My Girl to return, after her last trip. The Sportswriter mare was locked in all the way around, disappointing her many backers who enjoy her many appearances in finish photos. 

Grant Dixon’s #3 Ark Me comes from Albion Park, where she rested too comfortably after she fired from the gate to take an early lead. Once buried, she was locked in firmly. This time around, she could weave a better path down the lane.

Race 7

Handling mid-mile traffic, #4 Lonestar Lad had early foot for placement and went well along the rail with more in the tank. The 4-year-old has more to give and will do so with a decent payoff. 

There were plenty of punters backing #7 Arbit Major last time out. He tried very hard to get third from a full-length, first-over trip, against a tough gate-to-wire winner and just missed second to Lonestar Lad.

Race 8

Weidemann brings #1 Hes Novak to Redcliffe from Albion to go a bit longer against lesser types. 

Mitchell Dawson’s prolific #2 Unassuming Champ finished better than half of his starts first or second and refuses to make distance an issue.
