Australian harness racing: Redcliffe preview

Australian harness racing offers more great betting action tonight, May 20, which is Thursday afternoon, May 21, at Redcliffe Harness Racing Club in Queensland.

Here is our analysis of the action-packed card.

Race 1

The Dawson boys send out #5 Catch The Bouquet among a field of rogues, all trying for their first winning purse share. With a decent trip, #8 Idiots Dream could get up for the second spot, which would be his first time, after five thirds. 

Race 2

Among the favored last time out at Redcliffe in this troop of undesirables, #5 Trump Em Babe was disappointing and gave in too early. She deserves another shot, along with #4 Oceanside, who has been sitting on a win and may pop today.

Race 3

The 4-year-old #2 Western Showgirl is in a great spot for a second win at Redcliffe. She is placed well for these conditions and is bound to get some deserved action but is still worth backing. 

She will have to deal with #3 Dartesian, who is older and has seen more productive outings. 

Race 4

Fast to start with stamina, before she sat in the “death seat,” #5 Chromozone could nab a big mile here for Ricky Gordon. This time, the Mach Three mare could be helped with cover or control the fractions all the way around for a tighter win.

Back to Redcliffe, #6 Beef City Starzzz should be in the thick of things when it counts and could pose some problems for the others.

Race 5

Certainly a veteran with a great bloodline, #2 Inciter comes out of a strong race and was beaten while battling. The elder Rocknroll Hanover gelding is always a threat. 

Nearly always in the middle of trouble, #3 Robinmegood will manage to get some footwork done — enough to make him noticed at the wire. 

Race 6

Lola Weidemann’s #2 Too Good For You was sluggish last time out at Albion and could not find a fast path when it counted.

With a return to Redcliffe, where he won two starts back, the Santanna Blue Chip gelding, #3 Monterey Jack, could do it again with familiar early fractions.

Race 7

In a short field, #2 Eye See Double tried to make four foes follow him all around, but a slender nose found him second and makes him a top contender here.

Grant Dixon’s #7 Jovial Julie is back from Albion to Redcliffe, where she makes her best living.

Race 8

One start away from Albion, #1 Camroller could look a lot better. She started poorly and seemed misplaced in a race won by an outsider, but here she clearly can dominate at a decent price.

#3 Live Atom is also bound to be in the mix at the wire.

Race 9

#1 Make Mine Joe is in good hands with the Dawson boys, and horses from #6 Beach Goddess’ recent outing have come back well. She is with a lesser bunch this time, so look for her cooking at the wire for a piece of the purse.
