Despite firm going and two paths of fresh grass with the temporary rail being moved in from 40 to 17 feet out, outside stalkers and closers dominated the Wednesday card at Kentucky Downs. Only Franklin lover Snapper Sinclair, who now has three wins and a second from four local starts, scored in gate-to-wire fashion.

With the turf course drying out for day two of the Kentucky Downs September meet, not one of the 11 winners took the field gate to wire. The vast majority stalked from mid-pack, and the final two winners of the day rallied from far off the pace going a mile. The outcomes were much more predictable, with a 16-1 winner in race three the only outlier on a day that saw all the others pay out at 6-1 or less.

The impressive winner of the Roxelana last out, the eight-time winner appears to be a bit of a standout in this spot. She’s worth considering as a single in the multi-race wagers, although I do give Miss Mosaic a longshot chance.
