How to bet the General George Stakes

February 13th, 2025

A compact, but very talented, field of six will go postward in the $200,000 General George S. at Laurel Park on Saturday. A trio of horses appear to stand out among the six and figuring out how to play the race is the trickiest part of the tilt, barring a big upset.

General George Wagers

  • $25 trifecta 5 with 2 with 3 ($25)
  • $10 trifecta 5 with 3 with 2 ($10)

#5 Prince of Jericho is drawn outside of his two major foes in the dash and gets the slight nod because of it for conditioner Brittany Russell. By Munnings, the five-year-old dons a 15-7-5-1 mark on the surface and comes in off of a fine victory on the Fire Plug S. last time out. The Kentucky-bred five-year-old has speed but doesn’t need the lead in order to win, and it’s encouraging that he earned a lifetime best 105 Brisnet Speed figure the last time that he raced at seven-eighths on the strip. I feel that the consistently very good dark bay will have an ideal voyage to the top of the lane with Sheldon Russell in the stirrups.

#2 Quint’s Brew is an exciting son of Mosler who has registered some major Speed numbers in three of his four career engagements to date. The dark bay gelding suffered his lone setback to date when third on the oval in the summer, but he more than made amends for his defeat when drawing off to a dominant, six-length score in the Jennings S. while going one-mile on the strip in advance of Saturday. The Maryland-bred four-year-old earned a hefty 106 Speed figure for his work and could conceivably improve in his second appearance off of the long absence. Mychel Sanchez will send the talented one to the lead at the start for trainer Edward Allard.

#3 Celtic Contender dealt the aforementioned his lone loss to date and is no slouch in his own right. Trained by Hamilton Smith, the four-year-old chestnut is a three-time stakes hero on the oval and has won or placed in each of his five efforts at seven panels, as well. The Irish War Cry colt has a lot of versatility in his running style and will likely be just off the early tempo against this group with regular pilot Victor Carrasco taking the reins once again.
