How to bet the Unreachable Star Handicap
An overflow field of 14 sophomores will travel one mile and 70 yards on the Horseshoe Indianapolis main surface in Saturday’s $250,000 Unreachable Star H.

#3 Hoosier Daddy Now (3-1) has earned lifetime-best 82 Brisnet Speed figures in a pair of races in succession and has never been better in advance of Saturday for conditioner John Langemeier. Charming Kitten gelding picked up a stakes win on the lawn in the summer but might be even better on the dirt for a conditioner who is winning at a high rate at the current meet. The dark bay, who just missed with open allowance foes here in his latest performance, has the tactical speed to stay in range throughout with Marcelino Pedroza Jr. in the silks.

#8 Jailhouse Justice (12-1) is an intriguing top-three contender at a price for trainer Anthony Granitz. The gelded son of Harry’s Holiday has won or placed in each of his four tries off the layoff, all of which came on the turf, and he will make the move to the main surface on this occasion. He will also have blinkers back on for the contest, and the bay comes in off of a smart half-mile morning drill on the oval, too. Andres Ulloa retains the mount and will be bringing the value contender from off the pace.
Robert Gorham’s #4 Kingsbury Road (9-2) dominated an overmatched stakes field in his most recent showing and will be a major threat with even slight improvement under Eduardo Perez. By Unbridled Express, the gelding was a promising juvenile in 2023 but inconsistent at three, although his best effort will give him a chance on Saturday. The bay owns a win and a pair of placings from four lifetime runs at the trip, and he has arguably the best turn of foot in the group, too. The win threat will be moving into contention in the stretch.
For the lower rungs of my vertical plays, #6 Theo’s Promise (8-1) and #5 Positive Change (10-1), third and fourth, respectively, in a stakes run on the course most recently, will make my tickets.
