This week’s Pick 3 of the Week will come from Turfway Park on Saturday.
Race 6 Wager:
- $1 Pick 3: All with 1,3,4,5 with 5 ($36)
Race 6 – Optional Claiming
A well-matched group of nine will travel one mile to get things started. I lack conviction in the race and expect numerous runners to be close at the wire in a tough one to decipher. #7 Tatanka is interesting as controlling speed in the event while cutting back to a more favorable distance for trainer Brittany Vanden Berg and is worth a win bet to me at a nice number, but there is no chance that I could single the six-year-old in the tilt. I will use the ‘all’ button and hope to get a price to get through the opening leg.
Race 7 – Valdale S.
The feature on the card is a 6 1/2-furlong jaunt for three-year-old fillies with seven signed on. I’ll spread with multiple runners in the middle leg including #3 Hollygrove, who came home second in the Sandpiper S. at Tampa Bay Downs in her black-type debut. The Complexity filly will make her synthetic bow in the heat, and I expect the Whitworth Beckman trainee to thrive on the surface. The chestnut will have Joseph Ramos in the silks.
Sharp maiden winner #4 Magical Bette, Kelsey Danner’s local allowance heroine #5 Brindi, and potential pacesetter #1 My Lil Punky, who finished third after dueling on the front end in the Gowell S. most recently, will also make the ticket.
Race 8 – Optional Claiming
The final leg of the sequence attracted eight sophomores who will travel one mile on the Tapeta. Wesley Ward’s stakes-placed #5 Floodlites stretches out following a sprint second in his local debut most recently, and the colt rates a big chance with even slight improvement in this spot. This City of Light three-year-old gets Lasix for the initial time and will be forwardly placed throughout with Gerardo Corrales signed on for the voyage. The Lael Stables color bearer is a single to conclude my play.
