Pick 4 of the Week: Delta Downs Saturday
A total of 10 stakes races will be held at Delta Downs on Saturday evening during Louisiana Premier Night.
Race 8 Wager
- $2 Pick 4: 1,8 with 3,5,6 with 7 with 1,6,7 ($36)
Race 8 – Prince S.
The opening race of the sequence is a seven-furlong contest for sophomores. #1 Voila Magic (2-1) and #8 Hay Jude (7-2) are the class of the cast and I will keep it simple to get the wager underway.
Race 9 – Sprint S.
A full field of sprinters will vie in the five-furlong heat. #3 Geaux Sugar (7-5) is especially sharp as of late and fell just a head short at Fair Grounds on January 11 in search of his third consecutive stakes triumph. The in-form son of Half Ours is the one to catch and beat under Mitchell Murrill.
#6 Sharp Charlie (4-1) bested the aforementioned in their last pair of encounters and will be included for trainer Jorge Lara. The six-time local victor will never be far back beneath Alexander Castillo. #5 Bron and Brow (8-1) went last-to-first to win the race in 2024 at 7-10 odds and wheels back quickly off the claim for Asmussen. The Gormley gelding will make one run from the back with Marcelino Pedroza in the stirrups.
Geaux Sugar upsets at 21/1 in the Andrew Ney Memorial @fairgroundsnola under @mitchellmurrill for trainer Keith Bourgeois! 💰

Race 10 – Championship S.
Marquee contest of the night attracted nine for the 1 1/16-mile tilt. It seems impossible to side with any horse except for #7 Touchuponastar (4-5), the defending champ who dominated this event in 2024. The classy son of Star Guitar owns a 6-5-0-1 mark on the strip and towers over his foes. He doesn’t offer much value, but I’m going to take the free space, nonetheless.
Race 11 – Bon Temps Starter S.
The finale is for fillies and mares speeding five panels. #7 Won Day (5-2) didn’t handle the slop most recently but had been in the top two in five straight prior to that effort. The Time Bandit chestnut has seven local wins in her lifetime and draws outside of the other pace in the race with Timothy Thornton on board.
#6 Track Smart (12-1) is inconsistent but capable on her best day, and the mare comes off a big win at Fair Grounds in her second run for Gary Scherer. #1 Eurostorm (5-1) has won five of her last seven races in total including two straight on the course. The four-year-old would not be a surprise to me.
