Pleasanton Pick 3 Play for Saturday
The Saturday feature at Pleasanton is the $75,000 Golden Gate Debutante S. which is carded as the 8th Race. I’ll take a swing at the closing Pick 3 on the card which includes the marquee event of the afternoon.
Race 7 Wager:
$1 Pick 3: 1,2,7,8 with 2,6 with 7,8,9 ($24)
Race 7 – Claiming
A cast of eight will travel 1 1/8 miles in the first leg. The $4,000 claiming contest has multiple viable contenders to kick things off and I will use four of the entrants. #1 Lord Wimborne was impeded and eased before the finish while facing a bit tougher most recently, but he comes back quickly and has to be given a chance on the class drop. The Canford Cliffs eight-year-old has run well on the oval in the past and will benefit from the rail post, too.
Blaine Wright’s #2 Langston Road, Sam Calvario’s #7 Big Flame, and the class plunging #8 Nolde will each make the ticket, as well.
Race 8 – Debutante S.
Six juvenile fillies will go postward in the 1 1/16-mile affair. #6 Big Soiree is very interesting to me in her first route attempt. The gray daughter of Mr. Big rallied for a nice allowance win on the surface in her latest performance, and the California-bred gives the impression of a filly who will appreciate getting more ground with which to work with. This Jorge Bautista trainee might be moving best of all in the stretch.
The Jose Bautista-trained #2 Border Control was dominant in a seven-length debut win on the oval and has to be included second time out. The Mendelssohn chestnut overcame an awkward break to win easily at first asking and could find two turns well within her scope.
Race 9 – Starter Allowance
A six-furlong dash for former claiming runners will conclude the sequence. Nine juveniles are signed on for the finale and I will look outside for my winner. #7 Swift Stephan graduated in his first outing since having blinkers added last time for Blaine Wright. The gelding wouldn’t be a surprise beneath Alexander Chavez.
The Andy Mathis-conditioned #8 Prince of Del Mar led throughout in a score in his local debut most recently and runs for a trainer who is having a superb meeting leading up to this heat. And #9 Last Call Vron has shown steady improvement throughout his two-year-old campaign and graduated in his local bow last out. This speedy gelding could get a fine voyage just off of the contested early tempo.
Good Luck!
