Race Preview: By The Light Stakes – Delta Downs, January 4, 2013
The weekend stakes action kicks off a little early this week with the running of the $100,000 By The Light Stakes at Delta Downs. The seven-furlong race drew a field of seven with two fillies expecting to take most of the action.
Dancinginthecircle is the morning line favorite at 8-5 making her first start at Delta after campaigning mostly in Kentucky. She exits a second place finish in an allowance race at Churchill Downs behind a filly, Pure Fun, who won the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet in her next race. Dancinginthecircle should have no trouble with the tight Delta turns and will be tough to beat.
Second choice on the line is Unhedged from the Tom Amoss barn. The Broken Vow-filly has won three of her four career starts with her only loss coming in the Grade 3 Delta Princess over the track. She looks to be the main danger to the favorite and drew a better post. The long shot play in the race is Hometown Gossip, who is two-for-two at Delta by a combined nine lengths.
The By The Light is the second leg of the late pick-4, which starts with claimers in race seven. Some horses to use in the sequence are All Things Gold, Deputy Dehere and Uncle Bobby in race seven; Encoded, Lucky Laser, Ridge Rail, Like a Storm and Borrego’s Song in race nine and in the finale; Every Sunday, Prolonged, Peaberry and Malagant.
First post under the lights in Vinton, Louisiana is 6:45 ET with the By The Light scheduled for 9:52. Post time for race seven is 9:25.
