Bet America's listing of Breeders' Cup Probables

The Challenge races are over for the Breeders’ Cup, so it’s on to the main show.

The fields for most of the Breeders’ Cup races are now all but set, and as always, they will have great depth and be full of high-quality horses.

Last year’s winner Arrogate, one of four potential runners for trainer Bob Baffert, is the best-performed horse in the 1 ¼-mile Breeders’ Cup Classic, but his two failures at Del Mar this year raise questions about whether he will be at his best. His toughest opponent is the in-form Gun Runner.

Breeders’ Cup Classic probable starters: Arrogate, Collected, Diversify, Gunnevera, Gun Runner, Keen Ice, Mubtaahij, Pavel, War Decree, West Coast, Win the Space.

Sir Michael Stoute’s Ulysses heads the likely runners for the 1 ½-mile Breeders’ Cup Turf. This year he’s won the Eclipse Stakes (G1) and Juddmonte International (G1), and finished in the minor placings in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1) and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe behind Enable, who won’t be heading to Del Mar.

Breeders’ Cup Turf probable starters: Beach Patrol, Bigger Picture, Fanciful Angel, Frank Conversation, Frontiersman, Highland Reel, Hunt, Idaho, Itsinthepost, Oscar Performance, Sadler’s Joy, Ulysses.

Forever Unbridled and Stellar Wind, third and fourth last year, head the older horses for the 1 1/8-mile Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Challenging from the 3-year-old brigade are Abel Tasman, Elate, and Paradise Woods, among others.

Breeders’ Cup Distaff probable starters: Abel Tasman, Champagne Room, Elate, Faithfully, Forever Unbridled, It Tiz Well, Paradise Woods, Roly Poly, Romantic Vision, Stellar Wind.

Ribchester is set to try adding the Breeders’ Cup Mile to three top-level successes in Europe. World Approval heads the local team, while there should be respect for Japan’s Real Steel, who won on Dubai World Cup day last year.

Breeders’ Cup Mile probable starters: Annals of Time, Ballagh Rocks, Blackjackcat, Decorated Knight, Divisidero, Home of the Brave, Karar, Lancaster Bomber, Mr. Roary, Om, Real Steel, Ribchester, Suedois, World Approval, Yoshida, Zelzal.

Drefong should be a strong chance to defend his title in the six-furlong Breeders’ Cup Sprint after his victory in the Forego Handicap at Saratoga. Roy H, Takaful, and El Deal look his toughest opponents.

Californian Bolt d’Oro is likely to be favorite for the 1 1/16-mile Breeders’ Cup Juvenile after his standout victory in the FrontRunner Stakes. Leading the charge from the East Coast are Free Drop Billy, Firenze Fire, and The Tabulator.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile probable starters: Bolt d’Oro, Bravazo, Firenze Fire, Free Drop Billy, Hollywood Star, Solomini, The Tabulator.

The 1 1/16-mile Breeders’ Cup Juvenile fillies looks to have some depth. Dual Californian grade one winner Moonshine Memories faces challenges from Lady Ivanka, Heavenly Love, and Separationofpowers among others.
