2021 Preakness Stakes field and ML odds
Medina Spirit has drawn post 3 and was installed the morning line favorite for Saturday's $1.5 million Preakness S. (G1) at Pimlico. The second jewel of the Triple Crown, contested over 1 3/16 miles, features a field of 10.
Trained by Bob Baffert, Medina Spirit was first past the post in the May 1 Kentucky Derby (G1), but was subsequently found to have failed a post-race test after a level of betamethasone beyond the allowable limit was discovered. A split-sample test is pending.
An agreement was reached between trainer Bob Baffert and the Maryland Jockey Club on Tuesday which allowed both Medina Spirit and the Baffert-trained Concert Tour to enter the Preakness. Both horses will undergo pre-race tests, the results of which will be known Friday. Both horses would need to pass in order to start on Saturday.
Concert Tour, who captured the Rebel (G2), drew post 10 and was installed as the 5-2 second choice. Midnight Bourbon, who captured the Lecomte (G3) in January and was sixth in the Kentucky Derby, is the early 5-1 third choice.
