$203,727 Pick 5 carryover awaits Gulfstream Park bettors

The popular Rainbow Pick 6 at Gulfstream Park made headlines on Monday when one lucky bettor cashed the winning sequence for a life-changing $1,208,573.86 payoff.
The payout of the jackpot pool was triggered when 75-1 shot Scarto upset 7-10 favorite Disc Jockey in the American Fabius S. The lack of a million-dollar pool will make the Rainbow Pick 6 a bit less enticing when racing resumes at Gulfstream on Thursday, but never fear—thanks to Scarto, there’s a different carryover calling for your attention.
In addition to triggering the massive Pick 6 payoff, Scarto’s 75-1 upset knocked out every single Pick 5 ticket on Monday, which means there’s a $203,727 Pick 5 carryover slated for dispersal on Thursday.
With its 50-cent minimum and low 12% takeout rate, the Pick 5 is one of the most popular wagers at Gulfstream. If you’ve been enthusiastically chasing the Rainbow 6 jackpot, why not switch gears and give the lucrative Pick 5 a try?
Here’s a quick overview of the sequence, which kicks off at 3:33 p.m. ET:
Race 6: 8-5 favorite #R Kiss Em Goodbye has never run on turf, but she’s shown an abundance of tactical speed on dirt for hot trainer Georgina Baxter, stamping her as the mare to beat even while switching surfaces in this 5-furlong $30,000-$25,000 claiming test. Among the proven grass runners, #5 Little Bella—a maiden claiming winner over this course and distance last June—could be worth a look in her first start of the season.
Race 7: Fillies and mares will sprint 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track in this $8,000-$7,000 claiming race. #4 Fancy Fox and #3 Worth Avenue have run well against tougher company in the past, but don’t count out #7 Ledecky. She might not be as fast as five-time Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Katie Ledecky, but the equine Ledecky can improve while cutting back in distance and running for the second time off a layoff.
Race 8: Pure speed is tough to beat in Gulfstream’s 5-furlong turf sprints, so 2-1 favorite #4 Sir Seamus figures to be tough in this $16,000 claiming event for older horses. Sir Seamus brings by far the best Brisnet E1 and E2 Pace ratings to the equation for super-hot trainer/jockey team Mike Maker and Irad Ortiz.
Race 9: The day’s feature event is a 6-furlong allowance optional claiming race for fillies and mares. #7 Flat Awesome Jenny is on an upward trajectory for trainer Kelly Breen, who claimed the daughter of Flat Out two starts back. But she’ll have to be sharp to take down 5-2 favorite #5 Prerogative, a consistent four-time winner conditioned by Georgina Baxter.
