A look at the Breeders' Cup Future Stars Friday Pick 5
There are plenty of multi-race wager opportunities on both the Friday and Saturday Breeders' Cup cards. The good news (or possibly bad if you're way off in general) is that if you whiff on one race, the next likely starts a fresh Pick 3 or Pick 4 to partake in.
With a relatively low takeout and bet minimum on the Pick 5s, I'll be investing in those over the two days even if there might arguably be a number of short-priced winners to deal with.
Here's how I'll be playing Friday's ticket.
Race 5 -- Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2)
#9 FOUR WHEEL DRIVE (3-1) is one of the primary domestic hopes and has looked strong in his two victories to date. Son of American Pharoah has made the lead at the five-furlong point in both runs, so shortening up shouldn't be a major hindrance. #10 A'ALI (6-1), a winning Royal Ascot tab for us in June, has run only one bad this season, but has been impeccable with Dettori at the reins. Talent is there, and only needs to handle a bend for the first time to be right there.
Race 6 -- Juvenile Turf (G1)
#4 DECORATED INVADER (4-1) is our top pick off a nice win in the Summer (G1), while #12 ARIZONA (5-2) the one to beat judging from those form lines against the rising star Pinatubo over seas. #5 VITALOGY (10-1) has got uncorked too late in his two U.S. starts and will need to work out a trip here, but perhaps can see a stronger pace this time.
Race 7 -- Juvenile Fillies (G1)
Taking a stand here with #4 BRITISH IDIOM (7-2), who handled the stretchout to two turns wonderfully with a dominant score in the Alcibiades (G1). Could see a beneficial pace up front.
Race 8 -- Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1)
We've written of #11 SHARING (12-1) in our longshots to watch piece, while #12 SWEET MELANIA (5-1) a clear danger off her performance in the Jessamine (G2). Europeans have surprisingly not done all that well in this race, but #5 DAAHYEH (5-1), another Royal Ascot tab for us, is worth a look given her consistency. Almost found out over a stiff seven furlongs at Newmarket last time, but this easier mile might be within her scope.
Race 9 -- Juvenile (G1)
In this top-heavy renewal, we'll lean on #1 DENNIS' MOMENT (8-5) to edge the local leader Eight Rings. Impressive in his last two and has worked lights out both at Churchill and over this challenging strip since his arrival.
Here's the 50-cent ticket for Breeders' Cup Friday:
- 9,10 with 4,5,10 with 4 with 5,11,12 with 1 = $9.
Good luck!
