A Pick 4 play at Oaklawn Park on Saturday

Oaklawn Park features a solid late Pick 4 on Saturday, which features a pair of entry-level allowances, a maiden special weight for 3-year-old fillies, and the $125,000 Downthedustyroad Breeders' S. for Arkansas-bred distaffers.

Here are my thoughts on the sequence.

Race 7

A competitive field of nine is set for this conditional, 1 1/16-mile allowance, and #7 My Sixth Sense will seek his fourth straight win. He enters off a fine local appearance for trainer Steve Hobby, when he romped by 6 1/2-lengths over entry-level allowance foes, and is certainly a candidate to carry his sharp form forward. I will use him in the Pick 4, but the frontrunner will have to deal with some speed to his inside.

I will also add #6 Arrival and #9 Bruder Bob to my ticket.

Arrival tailed off last year with three consecutive unplaced efforts, but rebounded with a sharp score on Oaklawn's opening-day program. The gray gelding was compromised last time out, when he was squeezed hard at the break, but overcame the poor start to post a rallying second behind an unopposed gate-to-wire winner. He is eligible to show more for trainer Ingrid Mason, given the expected setup.

Bruder Bob also has the right running style, and the 4-year-old gelding enters off an encouraging neck second over the track Jan. 31 for trainer McLean Robertson.

Race 8

#4 Morning Snow is an exciting presence in this entry-level allowance.

Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, the 4-year-old posted a scintillating eight-length maiden win at Santa Anita in June, his second start. He registered a field-best 102 Brisnet Speed rating, and the frontrunning colt shows a fast series of drills in preparation for his return from an eight-month layoff.

Morning Snow doesn’t appear to be facing deep competition in this spot, and he is a single in the Pick 4.

Race 9

Eleven state-breds will sprint 6-furlongs, and #6 Sekani will face a class check after she posted a 10-length maiden romp Feb. 17. I liked how she cleared early, though, and there isn’t much speed in this field, with her main rivals mostly stalkers. She is a threat to steal this race on the front end, and I will give the lightly raced daughter of Double Irish top billing.

#3 Georgia’s Reward and #9 Bye Bye J appear capable with their best, but both runners must avoid leaving themselves too much to do from off the pace.

Race 10

#1 O Seraphina had no chance against Taraz last time, but she ran well for second and will be odds-on in this spot. It's tough to envision her losing, if she doesn’t miss the break from the innermost post.

Pick 4 ticket

With a pair of possible odds-on singles and the potential for short prices in the surrounding races, I will play the Pick 4 for a $5 denomination.

$5 Pick 4: 6,7,9 with 4 with 3,6,9 with 1 ($45)
