All Stakes Pick 3 for Laurel Park on Saturday
A total of eight black-type races will help constitute an exciting Maryland Million Day at Laurel Park on Saturday.
Race 8 Wager
$1 Pick 3: 1,3,8 with 3,8,11 with 2,6,9 ($27)
Race 8 – Sprint S.
The six-furlong dash on the main surface attracted an overflow field of 11 and appears to be pretty wide open. #1 Alwaysinahurry (4-1) has enjoyed a lot of success on the oval and has raced himself back into shape with a trio of runs following the lengthy absence for Phil Capuano. Great Notion gelding will save ground and make one run late beneath Mychel Sanchez.
Multiple stakes victor #3 Seven’s Eleven (5-2), who was a facile winner in the 2023 race, is an obvious inclusion. I’ll also toss #8 Take A Hint (10-1) on my ticket in his third run off the shelf for Gary Capuano.
Race 9 – Turf Sprint S.
A full field of grassy dashers will jaunt 5 1/2 panels in the middle leg of the sequence. Morning-line choice #8 Witty (7-5) went last-to-first in annexing the race last campaign and will be formidable from off the pace with his best showing. The Elizabeth Merryman trainee didn’t handle the unique course at Kentucky Downs in his last performance, but the son of Great Notion is back in a very reasonable spot on Saturday. Jevian Toledo will be in the stirrups.
#3 Whenigettoheaven (5-2), third in the heat in 2023, has shown marked improvement in a trio of tries since joining the Nolan Ramsey barn and is the main danger to the favorite. Street Magician gelding has never been better and has the early speed to get the jump on the late-running types turning for home. #11 Bosserati (12-1) has pace in a field lacking that trait, and the Brittany Russell charge has a ton of appeal at a big price. He could get brave if left alone for too long on top.
Race 10 – Distaff S.
An overflow field of 16 fillies and mares will run seven-eighths on the dirt to conclude the play. #9 Sheilahs Warcloud (10-1) is my top pick for owner/breeder/trainer Justin Nixon. Chestnut filly has been first or second in each lifetime appearance to date, and the sophomore proved capable of defeating her elders last time with a strong allowance triumph on the surface as well. Jean Briceno will pilot the chestnut.
#6 Spencerian (6-1) has posted four dominant wins from five attempts since adding blinkers and has never been better for Hugh McMahon. Irish War Cry four-year-old will have Toledo in the irons. #2 Malibu Beauty (9-2) owns 21 top-two finishes in her career and comes in with tallies in three of her last four outings. The six-year-old wouldn’t be a surprise.
