American Pharoah sloshes to Preakness 2015 victory
Zayat Stables' American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) didn't have any trouble taking the second leg of the Triple Crown despite a waterlogged track that turned Preakness 140 into a sloppy affair.
The rain hit just as the call came for the riders to mount up and continued pouring down for the entire post parade. Jockey Victor Espinoza and American Pharoah paid it no nevermind while leading gate-to-wire to finish 1 3/16 miles in 1:58 2/5.
American Pharoah, trained by Bob Baffert paid $3.80 as the 4-5 favorite and is expected to head to the Belmont S. (G1) in New York on June 6 for a try at sweeping the Triple Crown.
Longshot Tale of Verve, Divining Rod, Dortmund, Mr. Z, Danzig Moon, Firing Line and Bodhisattva completed the order of finish.
