Aqueduct stakes spot plays for Nov. 27

November 26th, 2021

A quartet of stakes tilts will highlight a fine Saturday card at the Big A.

Race 7 - Central Park S.

Eight juveniles will travel 1 1/16 miles on the outer turf course in the first black type race of the afternoon. I was impressed with how #1 General Ken overcame a tough trip to still come out on top in the Awad S. last time out in his first run for Chad Brown. The Violence colt gets a great slot on the rail for this endeavor, and his natural early speed will have him in the hunt throughout with Dylan Davis in the controls.

Race 8 - Discovery S.

Sophomores will run nine panels on the main strip in the $150,000 tilt. Godolphin homebred #3 Speaker’s Corner earned a whopping 112 Brisnet Speed number in an allowance win at Belmont with blinkers on for the initial time, and it’s impossible for me to go against the rising prospect. The Street Sense colt has trained well following that tally, and he will always be close under Junior Alvarado.

Race 9 - Long Island S. (G3)

Trainer Christophe Clement seems to have a stranglehold on the 1 1/2-mile turf affair with a trio of major contenders in the field of eight. I liked the effort from #8 Sorrel in her U. S. debut when third in the Orchid S. (G3) at Gulfstream Park, and I will take a chance with her at a square number in this marathon. The Dansili filly proved to love the distance when racing overseas as a sophomore, and I believe that she will like this course much more than the going in South Florida. Manny Franco has the call.

Race 10 - Turf Sprint Championship S.

A fun finale will be contested over six panels on the lawn and has attracted an overflow field of 12. Defending champ #6 Turned Aside looks like he got back into form when a closing second in the Nearctic S. (G2) at Woodbine last time out. The expensive son of American Pharoah is two-for-three at Aqueduct, and he will be difficult to deny with something resembling his latest performance. Dylan Davis will be in the stirrups, and the colt would love some moisture in the ground as well.
