Arlington Million 2018 pre-entry profiles

The 36th running of the Arlington Million (G1) is a week away, and pre-entries were released Friday for the 1 1/4-mile turf affair. There is a lot on the line in the contest, as the race is not only worth $1 million in purse money but also awards an all-fees paid berth to the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) as part of the Breeders' Cup "Win & You're In" Challenge series.

Below are profiles for the Arlington Million pre-entries:

Biggest win: 2017 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (G1)     Career-high BRIS Speed Rating: 98

British-bred gelding has yet to finish worse than fourth in five U.S. starts. A multiple Group 3 winner in France, the chestnut is riding a two-race win streak, having captured the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (G1) and an allowance/optional claimer in his past two.

Biggest win: 2016 Gran Premio Miguel Alfredo Martinez de Hoz (Arg-G1)     Career-high BRIS Speed Rating: 97

Six-year-old gelding was unbeaten in three starts in his native country but broke through with his first U.S. victory last out in the Stars and Stripes Stakes (G3) at Arlington. He was claimed out of his second start of this year, which was also his third stateside effort.

Biggest win: 2016 Belmont Derby Invitational (G1)     Career-high BRIS Speed Rating: 95

Bay has finished third in the Arlington Million for the past two years. His first attempt came one race after taking his U.S. debut in the 2016 Belmont Derby Invitational (G1).

Biggest win(s): 2016-17 editions of Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (G1)     Career-high BRIS Speed Rating: 101

Kitten's Joy six-year-old finished seventh by 2 1/2 lengths in last year's Arlington Million (G1). He only recently got back on the winning track with a half-length victory in the Arlington Handicap (G3) to ready for the 2018 running of the race.

Biggest win(s): 2017-18 editions of Monmouth Stakes (G2)     Career-high BRIS Speed Rating: 112

Lookin at Lucky ridgling earned a whopping 112 BRIS Speed rating in 2016 when second in the Sword Dancer Invitational (G1). His last two races saw the six-year-old dark bay defend his title in the Monmouth Stakes and finish a half-length second in the United Nations Stakes (G1).

Biggest win(s): Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1), Belmont Derby Invitational (G1), Secretariat Stakes (G1)      Career-high BRIS Speed Rating: 114

Four-year-old colt is top class all the way, racking up wins in the 2016 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) and last year's Belmont Derby Invitational (G1) and Secretariat Stakes (G1). The Kitten's Joy bay could add the Arlington Million to his already impressive resume.

Biggest win: Four Group 1s in his native Chile     Career-high BRIS Speed Rating: 97

Dark bay suffered his first loss from eight career starts when sixth by only a length in the Manhattan Stakes (G1) last out on June 9 at Belmont Park. Prior to that, he successfully carried his perfect mark from Chile into the United States with a three-quarter length victory in the Fort Marcy Stakes (G3) at Belmont on May 5.

Quality Road gelding stepped up in a big way to upset the June 9 Manhattan Stakes (G1) at 18-1 most recently at Belmont Park. The six-year-old bay is no slouch, having run worse than second only twice in his 11-race career.

Biggest win: no stakes wins     Career-high BRIS Speed Rating: 98

Five-year-old chestnut just made his stakes bow last out in the Arlington Handicap (G3) and finished sixth, beaten two lengths for it all. He brought a three-race win streak into that 1 3/16-mile affair and was sent off at 45-1.
