Australian harness racing: Redcliffe rides again

Wednesday night, Aug. 5, or Thursday afternoon, Aug. 6 in Australia, Queensland harness racing will kick off from Redcliffe at 11:42 p.m. ET.

Here are some observations for pacers and trotters that can be valuable for any wager type.

Race 1

#2 Dancing In Manolos and other favored pacers were hammered by a longshot last time out. Lola Weidermann has now put the A Rocknroll Dance mare in a spot where she drew well and looks equal against obvious favorites.

One of the obvious favorites is #4 I’ll Be Watching. The sophomore is usually supported more than he deserves, as was the case with his sire, Hes Watching, but he may be coming around to do better at the age of 3.

Race 2

Graham Dwyer has quite the earner in #6 Sixpenny Red and will send her out again for a few more steps in distance against lesser moneymakers. She has had trips too long recently, and got a death-seat role here and there, but among this group, she looks more than able.

#2 Ashlee Nitro rarely gets strong support from the public, but she was in a field a few back that produced winners at Redcliffe and rates a better shot here from the inside.

Race 3

The longer the better for #2 Bambole Nere. The Artistic Fella mare comes from out of town, back to the scene of her most recent win. Her last two events were closely contested and lost solely because of trip.

Much earned by #7 Doolittle Dandy is from steady appearances at the wire in the field of the purse share.

Race 4

A late starter, #2 Ally Pink will look to win her second straight at Redcliffe for Charlie Chiang. She is still fresh and rates well as a daughter of Mr Feelgood, who continued to rule with potent progeny.

Consistently favored, #8 La Pistola has to deal with the outside spot in the first row and that could affect his price more than his performance. Look for him late as a strong exotic contender.

Race 5

The McMullens have #4 Guts, so to speak, and the New Zealand-bred gelding comes off a tough trip, where he was well supported in the pools and raced against tougher than these.

Weidemann’s #1 Ghost Gum is coming around again and could be a big price for an exotic-play surprise.

Race 6

#5 Monterey Jack is in a perfect spot to rile this crowd.

A likely follower of winners, #6 Arts Peregrine shows up in many exotic-ticket combos and adds to their value, since punters steer clear of him on top.

Race 7

Darren Weeks’ #8 Dapper Bessie won’t be getting most of the win money from the second row inside, but it is a good spot for her to satisfy former backers.

Grant Dixon’s #6 Mickee Cullen was awkward after he shipped in to Redcliffe. With a smoother path, he could be close in the chase for home.
